How The K Search Visibility Score™ Works

The complete guide to our free website visibility checker: how we crawl your site, measure coverage and confidence, score each category, and what the numbers mean — plus answers to common questions.

What is The K Search Visibility Score™?

The K Search Visibility Score™ is a 0–100 measure of how easily customers can find, trust, and choose your business online. It looks beyond traditional SEO scores by combining technical health, content relevance, local presence, authority signals, AI search readiness, and conversion readiness into a single number with a letter grade and status band.

The score is generated from evidence collected on your live website — not from estimates or third-party rank trackers. Every category score links back to the specific pages and signals we found.

How websites are crawled

When you enter a URL, the checker fetches your homepage, reads your robots.txt and sitemap.xml, then follows internal links to discover additional pages. Pages are fetched respectfully, with rate limits and timeouts, and only publicly accessible pages are read.

For each page we capture titles, meta descriptions, heading structure, body content, structured data, internal and external links, contact details, and conversion elements. Performance signals come from Google PageSpeed Insights.

Pages discovered vs pages analyzed

Pages discovered is every unique URL we found through navigation, internal links, and your sitemap. Pages crawled is the subset we selected to fetch. Pages successfully analyzed is the number that returned usable content and were used in scoring.

The gap between these numbers is normal. Redirects, blocked paths, timeouts, login-protected pages, and non-HTML files are discovered but not analyzed.

Crawl coverage

Crawl coverage is pages successfully analyzed divided by pages discovered, shown as a percentage. 90–100% is excellent coverage, 70–89% is good, 40–69% is partial, and below 40% is limited.

Higher coverage generally produces more reliable scores, because more of your site's evidence is represented in the result.

Confidence levels

Every report includes a confidence level of High, Medium, or Low. High confidence generally means 20 or more pages analyzed with a sitemap or strong internal linking. Medium means 5–19 pages with partial coverage. Low means fewer than 5 pages, crawl restrictions, or limited evidence.

Crawl coverage adjusts this: coverage above 70% can raise confidence a level, and coverage below 40% lowers it and adds a note that some findings may be less certain.

Assessment categories

Each category is scored 0–100 and weighted into your overall visibility score.

Technical SEO

Titles, meta descriptions, heading hierarchy, HTTPS, indexability, mobile responsiveness, internal linking, structured data, and Core Web Vitals from PageSpeed Insights.

Search Visibility

Content depth, keyword and intent coverage, topical breadth across service and location pages, freshness, and how clearly your pages answer real customer questions.

Local SEO

NAP consistency, location and service-area pages, contact accessibility, LocalBusiness schema, Google Business Profile signals, and geographic relevance cues found on the site.

AI Search Readiness

Machine-readable structure, Organization and Person schema, FAQ markup, entity clarity, citable statements, and crawlability for AI systems. Feeds the separate AI Citation Readiness Score™ and the citation probability meter for ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews.

Authority & Trust

Brand and entity signals, About and author pages, expertise and experience markers, reviews and testimonials, outbound citations, and social profile presence.

Conversion Readiness

Clear calls to action, contact accessibility, form quality, page speed on key templates, trust elements, and whether visitors have an obvious next step.

How was my score calculated?

Your overall score is the weighted average of the category scores above, calculated only from evidence we could verify during the crawl. Missing signals reduce a category score; strong, verifiable signals raise it. The report shows the exact findings behind each category, your crawl coverage, and your confidence level so you can see why the number is what it is.

Category weightings

Weightings are tuned for small and mid-sized businesses competing in both classic search and AI-generated answers. Social authority and entity authority are scored as sub-signals inside Authority & Trust and AI Search Readiness.

Scoring framework

Each category is scored on a 0–100 scale from a set of weighted sub-signals. A sub-signal returns one of three states: verified (full credit), partial (proportional credit), or absent (no credit). Category scores are then combined using the weightings below to produce The K Search Visibility Score™.

Scores map to bands: 90–100 Excellent, 75–89 Strong, 60–74 Average, 40–59 Needs Improvement, below 40 Critical Attention Needed. A letter grade and status label are derived from the same bands.

Crawl logic

Discovery starts with the submitted URL, then reads /robots.txt and /sitemap.xml (including sitemap indexes). Internal links are followed breadth-first from the homepage, prioritizing navigation targets, service pages, location pages, About and contact pages, and recently updated URLs.

Crawl budget is capped per assessment to keep runs fast and polite. Fetches use timeouts and concurrency limits; non-HTML assets, query-parameter duplicates, and off-domain URLs are excluded. Directives in robots.txt are respected, which means disallowed sections are discovered but never fetched.

Performance metrics are pulled from the Google PageSpeed Insights API for representative templates rather than every URL.

Evidence-based scoring

No sub-signal is scored from assumption. Every point awarded is tied to an artifact captured during the crawl: a tag, a schema block, a heading, a phone number, a link, a form, or an API metric. The report surfaces this evidence per category so findings can be independently verified.

When a signal cannot be observed, it is recorded as absent rather than estimated. This makes the score conservative on sites that block crawling and repeatable across runs.

Confidence scoring

Confidence is computed from the volume of analyzed pages and crawl coverage. Base tiers: High at 20+ pages analyzed, Medium at 5–19, Low below 5. Coverage above 70% promotes the tier by one level (capped at High); coverage below 40% demotes it by one level (floored at Low) and attaches a limited-coverage note.

Confidence never changes the score itself. It describes how much evidence supported the score.

AI Search Readiness methodology

AI readiness is scored across four groups: AI crawlability (robots directives, sitemap availability, HTTPS, noindex usage, crawl depth, Core Web Vitals), structured data (Organization, LocalBusiness, Person, Article, FAQ, Breadcrumb, WebPage), E-E-A-T signals (named authors, credentials, first-hand experience, citations), and AI-citable content (definitional statements, question-led headings, FAQ blocks, extractable facts).

Missing Organization or Person schema carries a heavy penalty because both are primary inputs to entity resolution in AI systems. The result also produces a separate AI Citation Readiness Score™ and a per-platform citation probability estimate for ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews. These probabilities are modeled estimates, not measurements of actual citations.

Entity Authority methodology

Entity authority measures how unambiguously your business can be identified and corroborated. Inputs include consistent brand naming, Organization schema with sameAs links, a described founder or author entity, linked and verifiable social profiles, consistent NAP data, external citations, and an About page that states who you are and what you do.

Consistency across sources weighs more than volume: conflicting names, addresses, or profile links reduce the score even when many profiles exist.

Local SEO methodology

Local scoring evaluates NAP presence and consistency across the crawled pages, dedicated location or service-area pages, embedded maps and directions, LocalBusiness or relevant sub-type schema with address and geo fields, opening hours, review markup, and Google Business Profile references discoverable from the site.

Businesses without a physical service area are scored against a service-area model so that online-only businesses are not penalized for lacking an address.

Limitations of website crawling

A crawl-based assessment sees what is publicly rendered and served. It cannot read gated pages, content behind logins or paywalls, sections blocked in robots.txt, data inside third-party widgets that load after interaction, or off-site signals such as backlink profiles, Google Business Profile dashboards, and analytics.

Heavily client-rendered sites, aggressive bot protection, rate limiting, or slow responses can reduce coverage and therefore confidence. Scores are a practical snapshot of observable signals, not a replacement for a full manual SEO audit.

Frequently asked questions

Why were only 5 pages crawled?+

Crawl depth depends on what we can discover and fetch. A missing sitemap, thin internal linking, redirects, robots.txt rules, bot protection, or slow responses all reduce the number of pages analyzed. Adding a sitemap.xml and clear internal links usually increases coverage on the next run.

Why wasn't my Google Business Profile detected?+

We detect local signals from your website, not from the Google Business Profile dashboard. If your site does not link to your profile, embed a map, or publish consistent name, address, and phone details with LocalBusiness schema, the profile may not be detected even when it exists.

Why weren't my social profiles found?+

Social profiles are discovered through links on your crawled pages and sameAs entries in your Organization schema. Profiles linked only via icons rendered by scripts after interaction, or listed only in a footer we could not reach, may be missed. You can also add them manually in the optional step of the form.

How accurate is the score?+

The score reflects verifiable evidence found during the crawl, so it is repeatable and conservative. It is a practical snapshot of observable signals rather than a replacement for a full manual SEO audit, and accuracy improves with higher crawl coverage.

How often should I run an assessment?+

Every 3–6 months works for most businesses. Run it again sooner after a redesign, migration, large content release, or SEO campaign so you can see what changed.

Can the tool crawl more than 50 pages?+

The free assessment uses a capped crawl budget so results return quickly. Larger sites are sampled across their most important templates. If you need a full-site crawl, we can run a deeper manual audit on a discovery call.

Why does confidence level matter?+

Confidence tells you how much evidence supported your score. High confidence means many pages were analyzed with good coverage. Low confidence means the crawl saw little of your site, so individual findings should be treated as directional rather than complete.

Is this an SEO audit tool?+

It is broader than a traditional website SEO checker. Alongside technical SEO, it evaluates content relevance, local SEO, authority and entity signals, AI search readiness, and conversion readiness — the full picture of whether customers can find, trust, and choose you.

What is AI Search Readiness?+

AI Search Readiness measures how well your site can be understood, cited, and surfaced by AI-powered search experiences such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, and Google AI Overviews. It looks at structured data, entity clarity, FAQ implementation, citable content, and machine-readable information.

Is the visibility checker free?+

Yes. The K Search Visibility Score™ assessment is free, with no credit card and no obligation, and takes about 60 seconds to start.
